The Germain farm, from manure to electricity

The principle is simple: organic waste (manure and the like) is brought in from neighbouring farms.

It is stored for 40 days in digesters: sealed tanks heated to 40°C. The process, called methanisation, produces biogas, mostly methane. This gas is burned in a combustion engine. It generates electricity fed into the grid. The engine's heat, in turn, warms the digesters, the farm and supplies the district heating of the neighbouring village. Nothing is wasted.
